Rebuilding Chile and Haiti launches fundraiser for film

After an initial communicational boom and the fruit of great fundraising efforts Chile and Haiti soon fell out of public conscience. A year later and both countries are still having to deal with the repercussions of these devastating events. And it is the process of recovery and reconstruction that is most costly and time consuming estimated to take at least 3 years and cost over 20 Billion Dollars to return to a state of “normality”.

An estimated 15000 Haitian children were orphaned in the catastrophe and must be rehomed, while 80% of the educational infrastructure has been destroyed and must be rebuilt to ensure the education of future generations. Several months on and basic tasks such as the reconstruction of temporary latrines and the recovery of bodies had barely been completed. In Chile the fishing industry (sole income for many) was torn appart and had to be reinstated. Countless families left homeless are still finding refuge with families and friends, those lucky enough to have insurance have had little response to their claims. As you can see there are countless overwhelming facts but the upbeat culture of both countries has meant that the people carry on regardless and hope for a better tomorrow.

“Rebuilding Chile and Haiti”, is a feature documentary that will explore the journey of recovery and reconstruction that both countries have undergone in the months since these tragic disasters. By visiting both countries we intend to get an insight on the “real life” stories that have occurred, it is also our intention to interview key officials that have taken part in these acts and bring these stories back to public attention.

As most of the team involved are volunteering we have managed to cut the budget down and we have also sourced additional funds from sponsoring companies. Kodak UK have supplied us with all the equipment necessary. We are happy to accept proposal from companies that would like to sponsor this project and any individuals who would like to donate towards production costs. We are seeking sponsorships through indieGoGo if you would like to make a contribution, find out more or promote our campaign please visit our campaign page.
